Speedy Quote Sunday

Hey there, book nerds!

I hope your weekend has been good.

Every other Sunday I take a spot of time and share a couple of lines from books I’ve read (and possibly enjoyed) that have left an impression on me. I love it when books make a memorable impact like this. Whether they’ve made me laugh or swoon, rage, or even left me pondering the universe, these are the ones that stuck.

Thicker than glue. So, here are a couple. And yes, I realize I missed the last post. My bad. I’ve started a new job and have been working to get in the swing of things. Forgive me?

I put a focus on Shaun David Hutchinson this time around because I can’t get enough of this author. Such a fantastic writer that is bold and brave when it comes to addressing difficult situations through an incredible lens i.e. aliens, werewolves, zombies, and more. He’s approachable and my utmost favorite LGBTQIA+ author. I can’t say enough about him.

“Humor can shine a light on truths that make us uncomfortable, and we all know how painful facing the truth is, but that humor doesn’t have to come from another person or group’s pain.” (The Past and Other Things That Should Stay Buried, Shaun David Hutchinson)

Sometimes, you have to find a different way to approach honesty and truthfulness and humor offers a safer space to do that. That doesn’t mean it won’t still hurt. Some things just can’t be masked by the funny or at a person’s expense. I love this line because of how relatable it is.

The universe may forget us, but it doesn’t matter. Because we are the ants, and we’ll keep marching on.” (We Are The Ants, Shaun David Hutchinson)

The universe is so big, I’m not sure it actually knows we exist. LOL. And, I’m alright with that. This line was so special because of the perspective it offers in comparison to who we are and the extent we take ourselves to with our problems, possibly forgetting the universe exists and we are barely a thought in it. Magnificent.

More to come soon…
